How to Read the Financial Pages

Michael Brett

In this 5th edition, Michael Brett, an ex-financial journalist, has continued to produce a simple but excellent guide to explain the language of money. The workings of the financial system are first explained, with the roles of the participants, namely companies, governments, lawmakers and banks further expanded in individual chapters. Financial jargons are explained in layperson's terms, with financial techniques (takeovers, company stock options and accounting pratices, LBOs, etc.) regularly used by companies and banks treated in a light-hearted way. All in all, a thorough but friendly book that should serve as a starter to both experienced and inexperienced reader interested in the UK markets. Highly recommended.
